Tips for Beginning Bowlers Pt. 4

Posted

With the final steps in place for beginning your bowling experience, you’re ready to start focusing on the fine details of landing strikes and perfect scores! From equipment to timing and approaches, now you’ll want to pay attention to how the ball makes its mark on the pins.

Speed

There’s really no rhyme or reason to what speed will nail a pin directly where you want it to. It all depends on how you let go of the ball and at what point. Once you’ve gotten settled in with your technique, you’ll have a better understanding of the speed it will take to knock down the right pins. The average bowling speed is about 16 miles per hour, but you should have a good idea of what it will take to land a strike.

Hitting the Target

All of these steps should ultimately lead you to the target, but it will take some practice! In the beginning, it’s important to pay attention to the little details that your body makes so that you can be sure you’re approaching and releasing properly. Once you’ve got a good sense of how to place your arm, wrist, and footing, you should be paying attention to the ball itself. Maintaining watch over the ball will allow you to envision the direction in which you want it to go so that you can release in that exact spot. There are markings on the lanes to help you picture the path your ball should be following to end up in the perfect spot.
